Having read the various documents in #2, I can see that I from the "other world" when it comes to technology. Just learning the lingo is a challenge..
Stephen Abram encouraged me to "take the time"... and I can relate...my dietician said the same thing... "take the time to exercise - in moderation and in small increments (at first) building as you gain strengh". After spending an afternoon reading about Web 2.0, Library 2.o, I can see that I need to digest technology in manageable amounts.
I agree that the future of the library is indeed about people, building communities, enabling participation by the public through social computing. We gain wisdom with age, we gain knowledge through learning, and we learn from others... sharing information is a fundemental service of libraries - but the medium through which the sharing takes place is ever changing... we no longer make smoke signals, we no longer wait for the Pony Express, we no longer depend on the telegraph... moving into the digital age is expected and libraries will continue to support the demands of the public, just as they have in the past.
